If you elected to send payment for extension or returns by EFW (electronic funds withdrawal) through our office, the payment does not come out immediately. The IRS is responsible for withdrawing an EFW payment. According to the IRS, you should wait 7-10 business days from the date the return was accepted for a payment to be withdrawn. Our office would have filed your extension/return on the day you signed the 8878/8879 form.
If the e-file includes EFW information and it’s been more than 10 business days since the return was accepted, contact the IRS to find out why the payment wasn’t withdrawn.
